| Vermont Square in South Los Angeles became a "LANI neighborhood" in 1994. One of the oldest communities in Los Angeles, developed in the first three decade of the century, Vermont Square boasts residential streets lined with craftsman-style single family homes, and a recently-restored historic library. Sadly, Vermont Boulevard, the neighborhood's commercial and cultural spine, has suffered from decaying infrastructure, divestment and heavy automobile through-traffic. The Vermont bus line has the second-highest ridership in Los Angeles County | |

LANI Sustainable Organization In accordance with LANI's program design, the Vermont Square Recognized Community Organization (RCO) originally selected the Vermont Slauson Economic Development Corporation (VSEDC), an existing nonprofit, as their sustainable organization. As the RCO members became more active in the community, they formed their own non profit organization, the Vermont Square Community Organization (VSCO). LANI still provides support services to the VSCO, but most of their technical, operational and fundraising activities are independent from LANI. Community Organizations Ongoing successful fundraising and community-building events such as the neighborhood carnival, dance classes, and the sale of organic produce from the community garden. Annual community jazz concert in library park. Additional Benefits
