Project Summary

Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI) was selected by the Wilmington Neighborhood Council and the City of Los Angeles to administer the Wilmington Gateway Beautification Project in the 15th Council District, represented by Councilmember Janice Hahn, in the city of Los Angeles. The first phase of the Project included design services to develop a conceptual plan document detailing the community's vision for the proposed gateway sites within the Project Area. Mia Lehrer & Associates was selected by the Wilmington Gateway Beautification Committee (WBGB) to provide design services for the project in June of 2004.

A key component of LANI's process is the Steering Committee comprised of local community stakeholders that has been established by the Wilmington Neighborhood Council and the Office of Councilwoman Janice Hahn. For this project the WGBG served as this Steering Committee. The WGBG, with assistance from LANI, selected the design team: collaborated with the design team and an advisory project team of City representatives: and hosted community meetings to gain approval of the conceptual plan and report from the greater community. The selected design team assisted the Steering Committee and greater community in identifying design solutions, prioritizing and reaching consensus on recommendations for the gateway improvements, and illustrated these in a conceptual use plan and supporting sketches. Having successfully completed Phase I of the project, securing funding for continued design development and build-out of the Wilmington Gateway improvements now becomes the focal point for the Steering Committee.
