The Design Justice in Watts: Reparative Planning Around Ted Watkins Memorial Park project is a community-driven effort to address persistent traffic safety inequities in the communities of Watts and Florence-Firestone in Los Angeles. Grounded in a design justice framework, the project advances infrastructure-based solutions that prioritize safety, dignity, and community leadership over enforcement-based approaches. The project was catalyzed by the 2022 death of community member Bruce Phillips on Century Boulevard and is led by the LA Street Safety Coalition.
