Rain Ready Streets is a community-driven project focused on neighborhood solutions to improve water quality and keep our water local in Los Angeles.

From September 2025 through July 2026, the Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI), with support from the Water Foundation and our technical partner Herrera Inc., is working directly with residents in Historic Filipinotown and Western and Gage (South LA) to:

  • Listen to community concerns about water, heat, and safety.

  • Identify priorities for healthier, more resilient streets.

  • Develop solutions that reflect local needs and values.

Water touches every challenge we face—flooding, pollution, heat, shade, and safety—so managing it wisely can unlock solutions to all of them at once.

Los Angeles County Stormwater Mitigation

Imported water sources are becoming more unreliable due to drought and the impacts of extreme and unpredictable weather.

In Los Angeles County each year ~100 billion gallons of stormwater flows directly into streams/rivers, oceans, and storm drains carrying pollution from streets, cars, pet waste, and more.

Street & Residential Stormwater Runoff Improvements

Here are strategies that will capture, slow, and filter stormwater runoff to reduce flooding, recharge groundwater, filter out contaminants, and create more beautiful, functional outdoor spaces.
